Problems, Causes And Fixes. Options

Some problems, causes and fixes that I’ve found that could be helpful. Problems, causes and fixes may not apply to your particular issue. This is a rough guide only.

Vehicle: BA Falcon
Problem: Battery goes flat
Symptoms: Intermittent current draw
Fix: Water in wiring harness connector near the air filter. Clean and dry out harness and reseal to prevent water entry.

Vehicle: BA Falcon
Problem: Battery goes flat.
Symptoms: ECM turns on the air con condenser fans.
Fix: Replace ECM.

Vehicle: Falcon AU
Problem: Throttle stuck open after applying brake to slow down.
Fix: Stop light switch inoperative when brake applied, cruise control remains on and not cancelling. Replace stop switch.

Vehicle: Falcon AU
Problem: Stalls when cold.
Fix: Faulty camshaft sensor. Replace sensor.

Vehicle: Falcon EL, XG Ute and other 6 cylinder with distributors.
Problem: May not start, rough idle, missing on acceleration.
Symptoms: Possible popping back through intake manifold.
Fix: Worn or broken carbon brush in distributor cap. Renew cap and rotor button.

Vehicle: BA, BF, FG Falcon
Problem: ESP light on
Symptoms: FG, code C1288 pressure transducer main/ primary input circuit failure.
Fix: Faulty brake light switch and or blown ESP fuse.

Vehicle: Falcon EB, AU, BA with Smart lock/ Smart shield
Problem: Possible no start.
Fix: Check for blown interior light globe and or fuse.

Vehicle: BA Falcon
Problem: ABS Light on, Speedo not working.
Symptoms: Transmission can also be shifting erratically.
Fix: Check collar on the rear axle as it is known to move. If it has moved, the distance between the ABS sensor and the reluctor wheel will be increased, causing the fault.
